Sieku Primary School – Laikipia North

We embarked on this project in November 2022.

In partnership with the community engagement office of the British Army Training Unit (BATUK) we visited Sieku primary school for a needs assessment before we started on our project. The school is located in the remote area of Laikipia that neighbours the vast Borana conservancy.

Despite us donating books and other learning materials, the pressing need of the school is a feeding program. Many children walk approximately 12 kilometres per day on a return trip from home to school. At our time of visit there was severe drought that forced the children to stay out of school.

With the financial assistance of individual donors and technical support from BATUK, we were able to support the children sitting their class 8 and grade 6 final exam in November 2022. The donation was in the form of exam writing materials and food stuff to last the exam period.

The support required in this area is;

  • A school feeding program
  • Furniture for the teacher’s staff room
  • Equipping the library with furniture and books
  • Sustainable kitchen garden
