BOOK DONATIONS -2024
This year we have managed to give book donations to two rural schools in Nyeri and Laikipia counties. This has enriched the educational opportunities for children in need, supported the children’s reading and writing skills, enhanced their creativity, critical thinking and communication skills.
Our collective focus with partners on improving and supporting education in the rural communities has enabled us to provide resources such as books to schools that cannot afford to provide.
Our partners include the kids from our book club, individual well wishers, British Army Training Unit in Kenya (BATUK) and Australian Books for Children of Africa (ABCA).
Social media has played a role in making a positive impact on our book donation initiatives as you will read below.
Kamburaini Primary School – Nyeri County
In a heartwarming initiative, a dedicated teacher from Nyeri County reached out to us on our Facebook page seeking donations of books for Kamburaini school library where she teaches.
The school had a library but no books, the room was used as storage. Ms. Kathure was seeking books for the children to read and broaden their knowledge.
We visited the school in March 2024, donated the books and mentored the children in junior secondary school. To cultivate the reading culture in the school, we agreed to hold reading and writing competitions that will motivate the children.
Muhonia Comprehensive school – Laikipia County
Our book donation to Muhonia Comprehensive School was as a result of our collective focus on education Partnership with The British Army Training Unit in Kenya ( BATUK).
The needs assessment at the school done by BATUK indicated the school was in need of new classrooms,a library and books.
The school is located in the remote area of Lamuria in Laikipia County and has a total population of 196 children from kindergarten to junior high school. This indicates a low school enrollment due the sparsely populated area.
We visited the school in May 2024,donated books that were well received by the children as we mentored them on the importance of reading.
