LEARNING HOW TO WRITE FOR CHILDREN IN KINDERGARTEN .
Here are some pointers to look out for as children start learning how to write from the age of 3 to 6 years.
Keep in mind that all children are different therefore each milestone is unique to each child.
Learning to write for 3 to 4 year old children.
-
- Children make distinct marks that look like letters and that are separated from each other.
-
- They write some actual letters, especially the letters in their name. They may write their name.
-
- They may also start to draw pictures and label them using letters or letter-like marks.
Learning to write for 5 to 6 year old children
-
- As the children get old they start to hold pencils correctly and form letters accurately.
-
- At this age they know the sounds letters make and can spell words based on how they sound.
-
- They spell some common words that aren’t spelled the way they sound (often called sight words).
-
- They soon start to read and write short sentences.
-
- Soon the children will be able to write sentences using different types of writing such as narratives and book reviews (“Why I liked this book”).
