Africa Kids Book Club

EMPOWERING THE BOY CHILD BY RESTORING HIS DIGNITY.

Every year the Africa Kids Book Club family participates in a social impact project that supports children in rural schools or communities to access books and other learning and reading materials. We establish a reading club in the schools and train the patrons on how to facilitate the reading session. We also organise an annual book club day with fun-filled activities and mentorship for the children.

This year, we partnered with POWERHIM, a non-profit solution-based organisation dedicated to empowering and supporting vulnerable boys in Laikipia County.

Dress a Boy Initiative is one of the programs run by POWERHIM.

The organisation aims to restore the confidence, dignity and smile of the boy child .This, they do by dressing boys with full school uniform as boys with torn clothes usually suffer low self esteem, appear timid and are emotionally disturbed.

This year’s Initiative was aimed at dressing at least 50 pupils from Likii Primary School, a public school located in a low income area ( slums) of Nanyuki town. Our kids book club family was able to dress at least 10 boys. The school uniform comprises a sweater, shirt, shorts, socks and shoes. Other than the  school uniform they boys were also provided with inner wear ( boxers and vests). The boys could not hide their emotions, it was tears of joy and smiles that spoke volumes.

There was also a mentorship session held for the class 8 pupils who will be sitting their KCPE national exam later in November.

We are honoured to have partnered with POWERHIM, an organisation that is doing a remarkable job of empowering the boy child in Laikipia county. We thank Mr. Willy Switch, the organisation’s chairman for bringing us on board as a partner for this year’s initiative.

Our sincere gratitude to the kids book club family for participating either in kind or financially when called upon for our social impact projects. This year with your support, we were able to restore dignity to a boy child. Thank you and God bless you.
