FOUNDER’S NEW YEAR MESSAGE 2025
Happy New Year from me and our Africa kids book club team.
Our goal as an organization is to nurture a reading culture in children and every year we are guided by a theme to help us achieve our goal.
This year’s theme is Reading to Enhance Imagination and Spur Creativity.
We look forward to stimulating the children’s imagination and creativity through the stories that they will read this year. In turn, we are sure that the children’s creativity will be reflected in the stories that they will tell both in writing and as oral narratives.
Reading is a fun pastime activity for children where they interact with the characters in a book. Many times, children develop a love or hate relationship with characters and they never forget them. For instance, growing up I read many jungle animal stories and my favorite character was hare. I liked hare for his cunning character and how he was able to outwit the other animals. I wonder what I would have done with hare if I was given a chance to creatively explore the character when I was a child.
How about giving children this opportunity to stimulate their imagination and creatively develop their favorite characters as they write their own story?
That is our plan this year.
I am excited and look forward to reading new ideas from the children this year as they explore their creativity through reading.
