Fun Facts About Central Africa

Each country in Central Africa is unique, bursting with natural wonders such as rainforests, rivers, volcanoes ,rich cultures, and amazing wildlife. Here are some fun and interesting facts about some of these countries;

    Cameroon

  • It is often called “Africa in miniature” because it has deserts, rainforests, mountains, beaches and savannah. 
  • Cameroon is home to Mount Cameroon, an active volcano and the highest peak in West and Central Africa.
  • Cameroon is known for its  successful national football team.

    Central African Republic (CAR)

  • Most of the country is covered by tropical forest which also  forms a significant part of the Congo Basin rainforest, the world’s second-largest.
  • The country is home to Dzanga-Sangha Reserve, famous for forest elephants and gorillas.

    Chad

  • Chadis  is the largest landlocked country in Africa.
  • Chad is a hotspot for Camel racing .
  • The Sahara Desert covers much of northern Chad and occupies roughly 1/3rd of the country’s total area.

 

    Republic of the Congo

  • Congo takes its name from the Kongo, one of the main ethnic groups of the region. The country is often called Congo (Brazzaville) to distinguish it from the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo, also called Congo (Kinshasa).
  • It is home to home to endangered species like the African forest elephant, bonobos, and western & eastern lowland gorillas.

 

    Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)

  • Congo River basin is the largest in Africa and home to the world’s second-largest tropical rainforest.
  • The oldest national park in Africa, Virunga National Park is found in the DRC.
  • The DRC is rich in natural resources, including cobalt, copper, diamonds, gold, and timber. 

 

    Equatorial Guinea

  • It is the only African country where Spanish is the official language.
  • It also has beautiful volcanic islands like Bioko.The island also has a diverse range of other primate species, including the critically endangered Pennant’s red colobus and the endangered Preuss’s monkey where rare monkeys- Bioko drill  live.
